Hemotropic Friendship Virus (abbreviated as HFV) is the parent title for a series of low-fantasy slice-of-life stories that take place within the same fictional universe, depicting events in the daily lives of its characters from varying points of view. Most of the stories in the series are focused around one (or more) of its four main characters, Adair, Kiva, Rowan, and Ximun. However, some stories may instead feature them as side characters, focusing on some of the other people in their lives for a change. While its magical elements naturally alter some aspects of the worldbuilding, HFV's setting is otherwise largely based in realism. The characters reside in an unspecified location within the north-eastern United States, and the vast majority of stories in HFV take place between 2002-2009, particularly between 2005-2008; this is during the main four characters' high school years.
Thematically, HFV is a story about learning to live and love life again as a traumatized person, and about the value of human connection in this healing process. Queer identity and neurodivergency are also commonly explored aspects of life within HFV, with most of its main cast falling into one or both (usually both) of those categories.
That being said, HFV's narrative regularly and openly depicts sensitive topics related to trauma and mental health in great detail, such as suicidal depression, self-harm, and sexual harrassment, among others. Content warnings will vary with each work, but I highly recommend that you keep this in mind before considering engaging with the series.
As is true with the rest of my work, pretty much everything about HFV is highly personal to me. For four years, creating things for it was my number one hobby. While I have put a lot of effort into every part of it, I've never particularly concerned myself with trying to make it look in any way professional. All of what you're seeing is just me doing arts and crafts and playing with dolls. Nothing is more important to me than playing around and having fun. And, I'm having fun writing this right now, so I'm just gonna keep going.
I think that a lot of us who deal with conditions related to our physical, mental, and emotional health tend to feel that these conditions will forever limit us from being able to enjoy life to the fullest. We are all raised to aspire towards fulfilling the dreams of society; and, yet, when living with chronic conditions, many of us struggle with being able to sleep well enough at night to dream at all. I think it is incredibly important to allow oneself to grieve for the lives we have lost to our conditions. But, once one has grieved for long enough...what comes next?
Wherever one may look for it, there is beauty, and love, and wonder to be found. The crust of the Earth we all live upon teems with sacred knowledge, from the trillions of lives of creatures that came before us. Everything that was born here belongs here. We all belong here, and we all deserve to love being here, no matter what happens, or how we feel on a day-to-day basis. If you didn't belong here, you wouldn't exist, no matter what anyone else tries to tell you. I sincerely hope that my work is able to help you believe that there really is always something to survive for.
